1. Linenspa 8 Inch Hybrid Mattress – Best Overall
Memory foam and innerspring
Medium firm
CertiPUR-US certified
Comes with a cozy knit cover
10 year limited warranty
Expands to shape within 48 hours
Why It’s The Best:
If you love that classic feeling of a bouncy innerspring mattress but suffer from body pain after sleeping in one, then this Linenspa 8 inch Memory Foam and Innerspring Hybrid Mattress might just be the best RV mattress for your money, and a very affordable one at that. Having amassed an average rating of 4.6 stars from almost 103,000 reviewers on Amazon, this best seller is hailed as one of the most comfortable RV mattress models on the market.
Being a hybrid model, this 8 inch mattress combines the hypoallergenic, body-cradling memory foam with the traditional support of an innerspring mattress for a medium-firm feel. The layer of plush memory foam conforms to the curvatures of your body and helps align the spine to relieve pressure points and allow for a good night’s sleep, regardless of your sleeping position. Even the hot sleepers commented on how the mattress keeps them comfortably cool even in the hot summer months.
In addition to comfort, this mattress is CertiPUR-US certified and is not made with any harmful materials. It does not smell at all even when you first open the box. To answer a common concern by interested buyers, its coil spring is absolutely soundless. This mattress comes vacuum packed and rolled up for easy setup inside your rig.
And for an extremely reasonable price, you will get a 10-year limited warranty, which speaks volumes about this mattress’ durability. Users often praise how theirs hold up well after years of use, including the heavier sleepers. This is why we rank this Linenspa hybrid mattress as the best RV mattress, as it ticks all the boxes, offers a good balance in terms of important criteria, and all for a good price.
We bought this mattress for our RV as I cannot stand pure memory foam mattresses. We got the 8 inch one and threw it on to of our existing mattress. This mattress is amazing, especially for the price. Feels more like a traditional mattress and has just the right amount of support.

Pros
- Very reasonable price points
- Combines the bounciness of innerspring and the body-conforming feature of memory foam for comfort and pressure relief
Cons
- Some noted that the sides of this mattress don’t offer much support compared to the middle
- Need rotating regularly
2. Lucid Gel Memory Foam RV Mattress – Best Value
Combines 2.5 inch gel infused, ventilated memory foam surface + 7.5 inch high density foam base
Medium firm
Temperature-regulating, moisture-controlling TENCEL blend fabric cover
CertiPUR-US certified
10 year limited warranty
Why It’s The Best Value:
You have a rather limited budget but still want to sleep comfortably while traveling? Then the dual-layer Lucid Gel Memory Foam RV Mattress will be a well balanced option that gives you the best bang for your buck.
Instead of relying on retails for distribution, Lucid delivers its mattresses to the customers directly from the manufacturing line, an effective measure to keep costs low and pass on this cost saving to the end consumers. With a 10-year warranty, plus the fact that thousands of buyers who have owned this RV mattress for years have testified to its superior durability, the Lucid Gel Memory Foam RV Mattress will hold up well on the road and this means great value for your reasonable initial investment. This is why it is the best RV mattress for the budget-minded or beginner RVers.
Employing highly responsive open cell memory foam, this Lucid mattress compresses under body weight evenly so it tailors well to the curvature of your body, allowing for excellent spinal support and pressure relief.
This mattress compensated for gel memory foam’s tendency to trap in body heat by using a moisture controlling ventilated fabric, which optimizes ventilation and ensures you won’t get too hot even during the summer. The top cover is also made of breathable Tencel fabric. That said, there are a few customers who travel in hot and humid climates commented that the material is less breathable than anticipated, so that might be something to keep in mind depending on where you travel.
A plus in logistics is that Lucid Gel Memory Foam RV Mattress would be rolled, compressed then shipped in a simple box, so you can squeeze it straight into any narrow space and set up your sleeping quarters fuss free.
We bought this to replace a terrible standard mattress that comes with the purchase of a travel trailer. This is a short queen which was the only size that would do. Perfect fit and it only took a few minutes to set up. It did not take 48 hrs to fully extend like the instructions say. Best night sleep in a long while. Even thinking of replacing our king size mattress at home, which is a Serta pillow top. Toss up! Best price and arrived quickly. BTW: similar or less quality foam mattresses at the RV stores are double this price.

Pros
- Good thickness of high-density memory foam for comfort and support
- Well ventilated and moisture controlling ventilated fabric
- Praised for its superior durability
- Low cost
Cons
- Too firm for some
- Some complain that the material is not that breathable and can feel hot in summer
3. Zinus 8 Inch Foam and Spring RV Mattress – Editor’s Choice
1 inch body-conforming ViscoLatex foam, 0.5 inch durable high-density foam, combine with 6-inch supportive steel innersprings
ideal for stomach sleepers and petite to average weight sleepers
CertiPUR US Certified
10-year limited warranty
Why It’s an Editor’s Choice:
An RV memory foam mattress can be said to have become the new standard in mattresses these days, so it’s quite rare to come across a regular foam model that can offer a sleeping experience that rivals that of a memory foam counterpart. Despite not using memory foam, this Zinus Foam and Spring RV Mattress is still a sound choice for campers.
It is available in 6-inch, 8-inch, and 10-inch options to suit different preferences. However, among the three, the 8-inch model should offer enough padding and height, plus it’s significantly less expensive than the 10-inch, so it’s our pick. This regular foam RV mattress is constructed with a 6-inch base of supportive steel innersprings for some nice bounciness, and above is a 0.5-inch durable high-density foam for structural integrity plus a 1-inch body-conforming green tea-infused ViscoLatex foam top layer.
This construction not only allows for utmost comfort but also provides excellent pressure relief and utmost comfort, so that you never wake up with an aching back or joint. The innersprings offer that classic feel of an innerspring mattress of the old days, but pain-free. This mattress performs particularly well with stomach sleepers, whose tricky sleeping position can cause excruciating lower back pain with even high quality mattresses.
This Zinus mattress is CertiPUR US Certified for using chemical-free materials. In addition, the green tea-infused top foam layer keeps the mattress extra fresh and inviting. The only thing to note is that it might be a bit too firm for some sleepers, as the foam layers are not as thick as other models in this list, but it’s not really a deal breaker for most campers.
This mattresses is highly recommended for new RV campers by RV Talk‘s experts.
I wasn’t sure what mattress to purchase for my camper after researching about the different ones on the internet. But after awhile this mattress after reading several reviews stood out as the Best Mattress at a Reasonable Price. And I have to say I received it two weeks prior to going on a two week camping trip and my wife and I cannot be more pleased with our decision to get this mattress. It was very comfortable on it’s own, but I will tell you that we had already had a three inch thick memory foam topper, that we had on our old mattress so we put that on top, but that just added to the comfort. Would Highly Recommend this Mattress.

Pros
- Available in 6-inch, 8-inch, and 10-inch to suit different preference
- Green tea ViscoLatex foam comfort layer
- 6-inch supportive coil springs
Cons
- Might be too firm for some sleepers
4. Serenia Memory Foam RV Mattress
2” of 2.5 lb density memory foam + a 6” supportive base foam + a soft 4-way stretch knit cover
With open-cell construction, the memory foam disperses weight evenly and gives a cooler sleeping experience
CertiPUR-US certified
Why We Love It:
Made to be light and comfortable yet durable, Serenia Memory Foam RV Mattress is among the top choices on the market.
Packing 2 inches of adaptable memory foam and 6 inches of high-density base foam, the RV bed mattress from Serenia guarantees superb support to pressure points around the hips and shoulders. Due to the open-cell construction, the foam disperses the weight of the body evenly and keeps the air flowing.
Before making deliveries to customers, Serenia is going to compress and roll-packs its mattresses to facilitate transporting and positioning. As a result, getting Serenia Memory Foam RV Mattress into your recreational vehicle should be a walk in the park.
After the mattress is placed on the bed frame, cut through the plastic packaging to unroll it . In most cases, it only takes at most 72 hours, usually much sooner, for the Serenia RV mattress to reach its original specification.
Regarding post-purchase support, Serenia Memory Foam RV Mattress is accompanied by a limited manufacturer’s warranty against manufacturing defects. In addition, customer service responsiveness is excellent.
This mattress is insanely comfortable, and doesn’t transfer motion. We are going on 7 months with it, not a single sign of wear. I highly recommend! We bought the RV king for our 377MBS Grand Design Solitude RV which we live in full time, but I plan to order this same mattress, regular king size, once we are back in a house. Super soft mattresses give me back pain. This one is not overly firm by any means, but just perfect. I sleep like a baby on it.

Pros
- Tremendous back support
- Straightforward maintenance
- Great values for the price
Cons
- Minor valley issues
- Slightly expensive
5. DynastyMattress CoolBreeze Gel Memory Foam RV Mattress
Medium firm
2.5 inches with 3 pounds gel infused memory foam Sleep Cool Technology, 7.5 inches with 2 pounds of high density foam for extra structural durability.
Ideal for all general sleepers, back and side sleepers
Comes with an easy zipper machine washable cover
30 year limited warranty
Why We Love It:
Summer is indeed the ideal season for traveling if you don’t have trouble sleeping during those hot nights. Even if you do tend to sleep hot, the DynastyMattress CoolBreeze Gel Memory Foam Mattress will be the absolute best RV mattress for you.
One thing we must warn you though is that this mattress is one of the most expensive RV mattresses on the market, but you get a rare 120-day trial and 30 year limited warranty, while other RV mattresses only offer 10 year at most. This, plus the raving reviews on all e-retail platforms, really speak volume about this mattress’ performance and durability, so you get what you pay for.
Boasting open-cell, gel-infused foam, the CoolBreeze is capable of keeping sleepers comfortably cool all night long, regardless of their sleeping position. Unlike the average RV mattresses, this DynastyMattress CoolBreeze Gel Memory Foam Mattress is constructed from 2.5-inche 3-pound gel infused Sleep Cool Technology memory foam, and 7.5-inche 2-pound high density foam for extra structural durability as well as excellent spinal support.

Moreover, the DynastyMattress utilizes a washable cover fitted with zippers, allowing for easy maintenance. Thanks to its forgiving handling, CoolBreeze is considered to be the best RV mattress for first-time RVers on the market.
As one would expect from a solid, state-of-the-art RV mattress for sale, DynastyMattress CoolBreeze Gel Memory Foam Mattress is CertiPUR-US certified. That means the mattress contains no harmful substance in its composition, a plus for buyers with allergies or health concerns.
I’ve only used this mattress 2 months but it’s amazing!!! I put it in a 32′ RV which requires a short queen. I’m 6’4″ 260# and it feels similar to my $4000 Simmons Beautyrest. Of course the Dynasty Mattress replaced a 3″ RV foam (see pics) mattress that came with the RV so ANYTHING would be an improvement. It sure felt good throwing that 3″ foam piece of junk on the burn pile! BUY THIS MATTRESS. I’m pretty sure the people who give this negative reviews go through life complaining. Oh the pillows that came with it? They started out REALLY skinny and I was worried they were going to be like my crappy Tempurpedic pillows but the Dynasty pillows expanded and expanded and expanded. In short, the pillows are as high a quality as the mattress.

Pros
- Infused gel beads
- Comfortable and extra durable construction
- Fire retardant cover
Cons
- Expensive (but you get 20-year warranty)

6. Live & Sleep Resort Mattress
2.5-inch premium air-infused visco elastic foam on top of an extra thick high density firm support base
Medium firm
Comes with a breathable knit cover
CertiPUR-US certified
20 year limited warranty
Why We Love It:
With a top layer of 2.5-inch air-infused visco elastic foam and an extra thick high-density foam layer as the support base, this Live & Sleep Resort Classic Memory Foam Mattress is an excellent RV mattress, albeit being slightly pricey. Packing non-toxic, breathable and plush materials, this Resort Classic mattress should be a great addition to your recreational vehicle in case you want exceptional comfort.
Its medium firmness and good motion isolation are efficient for relief, support and comfort. Engineered to match all sorts of accommodations, Live & Sleep Resort Classic Memory Foam Mattress perform admirably on box springs, metal platforms and hard floors.
In addition, as the manufacturer employs pressure instead of chemicals to regulate the foam’s physical properties, this Live & Sleep mattress is arguably the best RV mattress for the health conscious campers.
Another big plus is that this Live & Sleep Resort Classic Memory Foam Mattress is accompanied by a lovely knit cover with enhanced breathability, which improves air circulation and thereby keeping you cool all night.
After a ten day road trip with our little travel trailer last year we had to make a change. The original mattress almost killed our backs. So, before thanking our first trip this year we ordered the Resort Sleep RV Short queen. It is as comfortable as our memory foam mattress we have at home. When we do our next ten day road trip we will sleep as good as we do at home! Oh, and when you do get yours, be sure and buy a waterproof cover to go under your regular mattress pad. That’s insurance for your investment should your RV spring a leak.

Pros
- Hypoallergenic, antibacterial and breathable materials
- Conveniently comes with a cover
- Performs well in all types of setup
Cons
- Costly
- Might be too firm for many sleepers
7. Zinus Green Tea Memory Foam RV Mattress
Construction (6-inch version): 1 inches conforming memory foam and 5 total inches durable, high density base support foam
Ideal for back sleepers and average-weight sleepers
Twin mattress supports a maximum weight of 250 lbs, while all other sizes can support up to 500 lbs
Conveniently comes with a soft, poly jacquard cover
CertiPUR US Certified
10 year limited warranty
Why We Love It:
Zinus offers two seemingly similar RV memory foam mattresses, both infused with green tea for extra freshness and antibacterial properties. But if you are a back sleeper and suffer from back and neck pain each morning after waking up, this is the one for you, while the other Zinus mattress at the 7th spot below is more ideal for stomach sleepers.
By making use of premium memory foam and high-density breathable support foam as the base, this Zinus Green Tea Memory Foam Mattress ensures a relatively high level of comfort. This medium firm mattress is neither too soft nor too hard, thus is perfect for sleepers who suffer from back and neck pain. It is available in 6-inch, 8-inch, 10-inch, and 12-inch options to suit different preferences and individual weights.
Furthermore, by incorporating an innovative combination of green tea extract and castor seed oil, Zinus Green Tea Memory Foam Mattress is second to none when it comes to expelling bacteria and odors.
As the foam only absorbs minimal body heat, the Zinus mattress remains comfortably cool while you sleep. It also conveniently comes with a soft, poly jacquard cover.
The Zinus Green Tea Memory Foam Mattress is a solid yet super affordable mattress for recreational vehicles. In addition, it is a rather low maintenance mattress and should last you many years.
We bought this mattress to replace a king in an RV. We selected the 12″ thick model. OEM mattresses in RV’s are often slightly off standard size. A standard king was too wide to fit properly inside the headboard slide-out compartment. It was either buy a custom sized mattress ($$$$) or one we could trim to size. Trimming required unzipping the cover and cutting off 2″ in width to make it fit properly. The cut was made with a very sharp butcher knife after drawing a line along the edge to follow with the knife blade. Since the mattress is “layered” it was very easy to make a straight, clean cut by doing 3 passes. Compared to the OEM so-called premium pillow-top innerspring mattress, even with an added memory foam topper, the comfort and support is cause for a very comfortable night. It has a soft, conforming memory foam top layer and is firm enough underneath to allow sleeping on my stomach without experiencing back pain from being on a sway back mattress. It is NOT hot. I am so glad we selected this mattress rather than a higher priced “purple” offering that I doubt would have offered any additional comfort. If you are looking for a feather-bed super soft mattress this will probably be too firm. But, for good support in any sleeping position with added body form comfort, it is an A+. I actually like it better than the $2,500 king we have in our brick and mortar house bedroom.

CertiPUR US Certified
10 year limited warranty
Why We Love It:
Using CertiPUR – US certified foam for optimal sleeping experience, Zinus Ultima Comfort Memory Foam Mattress is among the top choices for the best RV mattress for campers who prioritize comfort and health safety. Also infused with green tea like the Zinus Green Tea Memory Foam Mattress above to ward off bacteria, the Ultima model also incorporates moisture-absorbing charcoal to stay extra fresh after extensive use.
This RV mattress features three layers of foam: a 5-inch base support foam, a 2-inch pressure-relieving foam and a 3-inch top layer of body-conforming memory foam for utmost spinal support and pressure relief. This 3-layer foam mattress is ideal for stomach sleepers and petite to average-weight sleepers.

After it gets out of the shipping box, the Zinus mattress is going to reach its manufacturing specifications within 48 hours. Nonetheless, it’s widely advised that you open Zinus Ultima Comfort Memory Foam Mattress within 72 hours of receipt in order to avoid issues with expansion.
Very comfortable bed for RV
Very comfortable memory foam mattress! Good thing about this bed in the wintertime is that it is a little warm once you start to sleep on it, it holds in heat. In the summer time although it does hold heat, it’s not so bad that you’re sweating the bed. When it says camper queen, it is a little short. I am 6’ 4” and about a good 3 inches of my feet and lower leg hangs off the bed. I just sleep sideways on the bed, and that seems to work!
I sleep just as well on this bed as I do the bed in my home. It sleeps like any other memory foam mattress you expect to sleep on. Your body does settle into the memory foam applying even pressure along your body.
I highly recommend.

9. Classic Brands Cool Gel Mattress
2 inches of gel-infused memory foam for breathability and temperature regulation on top of 6 inches of high-density base foam for support, pressure point relief, and proper spinal alignment
Cool-gel construction is ideal for hot sleepers
Medium firm
Performs well on adjustable base
CertiPUR US Certified
10 year warranty
Why We Love It:
Often regarded as the best RV mattress for RV bunk beds and kids’ rooms, this Classic Brands Cool Gel Ventilated Gel Memory Foam Mattress excels when it comes to pressure point relief, back support, and spinal alignment.
Boasting a splendid arrangement of all-around cover as well as 4-way stretch works, this Classic Brands mattress truly possesses top-of-the-line conforming properties. With the use of naturally hypoallergenic foam in its construction, this Classic Brands Cool Gel Ventilated Gel Memory Foam Mattress is perfect for allergy-prone RVers.
This RV mattress from Classic Brands consists of just 2 foam layers: a layer of gel-infused memory foam on top and a layer of high-density memory foam at the base. This cool gel mattress is certified by CertiPUR-US.
The ventilated top layer of the mattress effectively draws the heat away from your body which lets you stay cool all night. The adjustable base layer ensures the overall stability of the mattress and provides optimal comfort. In addition, this RV mattress also has excellent motion isolation. It is designed to perform well on an adjustable base, so it would easily adapt to different camping settings.
And despite not being as well known as, like, Zinus or Linenspa, many heavy sleepers have praised how this mattress holds up after some 5 years of use with no to minimal sagging, even with two individuals each weighing between 200 and 400 lbs rolling on top each night.
I bought this beauty for my van camper bed. It’s awesome. I was concerned after reading some reviews stating fiberglass-like material was present upon opening the mattress cover. I did not have that experience in the least. I cut a 3″x12″ corner off to accommodate my camper build and it was just foam in there. It’s also ridiculously comfortable. Very supportive, i.e, firm, but comfortable. Makes both myself, who wants super cushioned luxury, and my boyfriend, who wants to sleep on a rock, simultaneously very happy.

Oh, my goodness… Buy it!!!! He likes hard mattresses, and I like soft. I’m 5′ and weigh 110, my fiancé is 6′ and weighs 300+, and we both love it. If you are not dealing with such a discrepancy, you can not begin to understand how amazing it is that it works for both of us. Just the right amount of softness for me, but firm enough that it doesn’t bother him when he sits or lays on it. We bought it for an RV, but we are planning on getting another for our house (to replace my crazy expensive Sealy posturepedic pillow top- that he hates) because we both like it so much.

We bought this short queen foam mattress to replace an old coil spring mattress in our travel trailer. When this item arrived in what looked like a rather small package for what it was supposed to be, I admit I was somewhat skeptical it would actually do what it claimed it would do. When we took out of the package, unrolled it and laid it on top of the wooden platform, it looked like it would be several inches too short in both directions and just looked like kind of an uneven lumpy mess. The directions say to give it at least 48 hours to achieve its full size/shape, but I was already kicking myself for having spent the money on it based on what it looked like when first opened. However, when we checked it again after 3 days, what a pleasant surprise! It did indeed plump up to fit the entire size of the mattress surface and my skepticism went right out the window!
There was no smell at all and the bed is so much more comfortable now, firm yet soft at the same time. I was originally debating between the 8″ and 10″ mattress, which was a couple of hundred dollars difference in price. Ended up getting the 8″ mattress and bought a separate 2.5″ foam topper (about $55), so got a 10.5″ mattress for about $150 less than just buying a 10″ mattress. After looking at RV mattresses and beds costing hundreds (and sometimes even thousands) of dollars more, we’re very pleased we went with this item and it has easily surpassed all of our expectations.

Buyer’s Guide To The Best RV Mattress: The Criteria
Regardless of your budget and preference, taking into account the following criteria will ensure that you get good value for money when seeking the best RV mattress.
Comfort
Comfort is definitely every buyer’s priority. Good mattresses must pack sufficient support to your back and offer relief to the joints.
In addition, if you sleep with others and one of you is a light sleeper, it’s best to look for mattresses that feature motion isolation so that no one gets disturbed by another’s moving around.
Another factor that many RVers fail to take note is that hot weather calls for mattresses made from breathable materials.
Dimensions
Space is a scarce resource in recreational vehicles, so before buying anything for your RV, you need to make plans for arrangements. Take measurements of the spot intend for the mattress and use them as references to ensure good fit.
Portability
Living the RV life means you will need to swap things in and out every now and then, which is why it’s best to invest in highly portable mattresses.
With the ability to bend and fold your mattresses without causing permanent damage, it’s going to be a breeze rearranging the interior of your RV as well as hassle-free storage. To make sure that the mattresses boast the desired portability, you should browse customer reviews, especially photo reviews as a precaution, or contact the manufacturers to have your questions answered.
Safety
RV experts often advise that you get mattresses that incorporate fire retardants in order to minimize the risk of fire hazards. Furthermore, keep an eye out for certified mattresses that don’t contain toxic substances such as mercury.
Warranty
Since there is warranty, why not make the most out of them by grabbing products with long warranties?
Interestingly, warranties usually give critical insights about build quality. Longer warranties tend to indicate that the mattress manufacturers have solid quality standards and control, thus longer mattresses’ lifespan and the chance of faulty goods is unlikely.
Benefits Of A Camper Mattress
Deliver Much-Needed Pain Relief
After a long day on the road, nothing beats lying down and chill on a soft but stable mattresses for campers that offers excellent back support and pain relief. By the time you wake up, all the soreness and aching would disappear to let you continue your journey all recharged and refreshed.
Keep Allergens Away
Designed and manufactured to suit the nature of long RV trips, compared to the average household mattresses, mattresses for campers prove markedly superior once it comes to expelling allergens.
Dust, mites, and mildew rarely get a steady foothold in RV-specific mattresses. However, you still need to look after your RV mattresses properly if you want a long happy relationship with them.
Maintain Temperatures At a Suitable Level
Most RV models in use nowadays have adequate thermal insulation, however this is still not adequate for many RVers. The good news is well-ventilated, high quality mattresses can effectively address this issue to a certain degree.
Note that your choice of covers, pillows, blankets and toppers also affect the overall temperature of your sleeping quarter.
Prominent Types Of RV/Camper Mattress
Apart from comfort, the material composition of RV mattresses will affect a number of factors, such as their level of motion isolation and even their typical size. This comparison of the most common types of RV mattresses with their advantages and disadvantages will help you determine which best suits your preference and budget.
There are four types of RV mattresses: innerspring, foam, air bed and hybrid.
The foam category in turn comprises a wide range of options, however the following versions boast the latest technology and comfort: memory, latex and polyurethane.
1. Innerspring Mattress
The conventional, older generation of mattresses with metal coil support system.
Featuring the traditional coil support system, innerspring mattress remains fairly popular among RVers that grew up sleeping on them. As the coils tend to be sandwiched between the bedding, people have lots of bounciness as well as back support. Additionally, you don’t have to spend much money on mattresses with internal coils as they come at reasonable prices. On the downside, motions travel rather far in innerspring mattresses so if you sleep next to someone that tumbles often, things may get slightly inconvenient.
2. Foam Mattress
Mattresses use all kinds of foams but three options stand out from the rest:
- Polyurethane: Sourced from synthetic materials and is cheap to make, many RV manufacturers use Polyurethane foam for the default onboard mattress. The level of support provided by the Polyurethane falls behind other mattress materials but it definitely suffices in a pinch.
- Memory: The foam gets its name due to a unique ability: it responds to the heat and weight of the sleepers then shape itself accordingly. For RVers that desire optimum support and comfort, mattresses made of memory foam would be the best bets without fail. But as such mattresses demand significant resources, they prove ill-suited to budget-minded shoppers.
- Latex: Latex foam is a naturally sourced material. Using natural ingredients, Latex mattresses should be the preferred choice for eco-conscious RVers. Being naturally hypoallergenic, mattresses that make use of Latex foam excel at keeping the allergens away in virtually every condition. In terms of shortcomings, Latex mattresses produce less than ideal back support to the sleepers.
3. Air Mattress
Considered to be the perfect solution for owners of RV with restricted spaces, air mattresses could be deployed and put away without much difficulty. The presence of air in the mattresses also guarantees outstanding thermal insulation in most settings.
These air beds are lightweight and highly portable. They can be inflated with a pump and deflated when not needed.
There are a few additional worries also coming up such as losses of airs, stretchy materials and so on after a long time of usage.
4. Hybrid Mattress
Combining two or more support systems, usually memory foam layers along with an innerspring system, hybrid mattresses retain certain characteristics from both foam and innerspring mattresses.
Mattress Types | Pros | Cons |
---|---|---|
Innerspring | + Cheap + Bouncy + Thin profile + Metal coils are prone to rust | - Heavy - No motion isolation - Bad for back pain |
Memory Foam | + Optimum support and comfort | - Expensive |
Latex Foam | + Naturally antimicrobial + Long lifespan thanks to its antimicrobial feature. | - Expensive - Provide less back support - Latex mattresses are typically heavier and larger, thus may not fit al RVs |
Polyurethane Foam | + Affordable + Thin profile + Lightweight | - Provide less back support - Might be too firm for some |
Airbed | + Cheap + Lightweight + Firmness can be adjusted with the level of inflation. + Great for storage and easy interior rearrangement. | - Less durable than solid mattresses: possible damages include loss of air and getting punctured |
Hybrid | + Has the pressure relieving benefits of memory foam. + Retains the classic feel of an innerspring + Comfortable + Sufficient back supportLong lifespan | - Heavy and thick - Limited availability |
Popular Sizes Of RV Mattresses

The following size guide will prepare you for what to expect. Remember to take measurements of the intended space for the mattress before browsing for one to ensure good fit.

FAQs About RV Mattresses
1. What is the difference between an RV mattress and a regular mattress?
There are two things that are highly valuable in every RV, that is space and load. Space is as precious as gold, and the weight of loaded cargo is also limited to the tow vehicle’s gross trailer weight rating. For these reasons, RV mattresses are different from standard mattresses used in the homes in two aspects: they are smaller, most often narrower in width, despite being the same size, such as a king, and they are more lightweight. To reduce weight, the manufacturer would have to toss a few components or use less materials, be it springs, foam or gel. So in addition to size, an RV mattress might feel a bit different from your standard mattress of the same material.
2. Can I use a regular mattress in a RV?
Technically you can, just make sure you measure your bed frames beforehand so you know whether your existing mattress can fit in or not. In many cases, an RV bed can be slightly narrower than what you have at home, even if the manufacturer calls it a “king”, for instance. This is why you will find that the size for some standard RV mattresses slightly differs (that is usually narrower in width) from the standard mattress for residential use, which is understandable considering the limited space inside an average recreational vehicle. While you might be tempted to try to squeeze in your existing mattress on a mismatched bed, size mismatches would most likely result in the mattress sliding around or being bent, thus affecting your good night’s sleep.
3. What are the most common RV mattress sizes?
Some RV beds have the same size as the standard ones made for residential use. However, in many cases, one dimension might be slightly smaller than what you have at home. For instance, an RV mattress might be called “king size”, but it’s in fact a few inches shorter in width.
Furthermore, the twin and full categories include many sizes, all varying slightly from standard sizes. There are also some odd sizes that are specific to RVs, so it’s crucial that you double check the dimensions of your RV bed frames before shopping for the best RV mattress for your rig, so that you won’t get confused by what the mattress manufacturer chooses to call it.
There’s a full list of RV mattress sizes in another section above, and below are the most popular sizes for larger mattresses, namely king, short king, queen, short queen.
RV King: 72” x 80” (while a household king measures 76” x 80”)
RV Short King: 72″ x 75″
RV Queen: 60″ x 80″ (same as a household queen)
RV Short Queen: 60” x 75” (sometimes 60″ x 74″)
Another common size which might appear odd for first time campers is the RV Three-quarter Queen: 48” x 75”
4. What RV mattress type is the most comfortable?
Althoughthe best RV mattress would depend on your budget as well as your sleeping habits, or whether you sleep alone or with someone else, most experts as well as buyers would generally agree that if you don’t take into account the price difference, then the best RV mattresses in terms of comfortability are memory foam mattresses, latex foam mattresses and hybrid foam-innerspring mattresses, which consists of innersprings and a layer of foam on top.
Memory foam is unmatched in the way that it shapes itself according to the weight and shape of the sleeper, thus over time, it will fit with your body like a Lego piece, which means you get superb support as well as comfort, and say goodbye to bodily or joint aches.
Another version of memory foam which offers the unique bounciness of the good old innerspring mattresses that the previous generation grew up with, combined with the unique benefits of memory foam is a hybrid memory foam/innerspring mattress. You get great support and comfort, plus that extra bounciness.
In general, memory foam and hybrid memory foam mattresses are often hailed as the best RV mattress types by campers and experts alike. That said, many earth-friendly and/or sensitive shoppers would lean towards Latex foam instead, since they are naturally sourced, are hypoallergenic, and are adequately comfortable, although they don’t offer the type of support like memory foam.
5. How can I make my RV mattresses more comfortable?
If you find the comfort of your mattress falls short of expectation then consider adding pads, toppers, or bedding. Feel free to experiment in order to determine the setup that fits your personal tastes. Depending on their characteristics, some mattresses allow more room for modification than others.
6. How much should I spend on mattresses for my rig?
There are ample options for every wallet and every need. Still, one classic rule of thumb still remains relevant: you get what you pay for.
Remember that dirt-cheap mattresses rarely provide satisfaction. In fact, if you decide to buy a very cheap mattress to spare a few bucks, it’s highly likely that you will have to throw it away after a while. This is a waste of money, plus take into account the good night’s sleep that you should have had.
Instead, if you do your research carefully and pick out a quality mattress that will last you a long time without hassle, your camping experience will be considerably better.
7. What is the best place to buy mattresses for RV?
Thanks to eCommerce, you would be able to purchase an excellent mattress for your rig and have it delivered to your door without having to go out of the house. However, many buyers prefer to go to the store to get a feel of the real mattress before deciding.
If you want a mattress in a hurry then head online and rely on detailed reviews of other buyers to get an idea of the quality of the available options. On the other hand, if you have time, it’s worth the effort to visit the store to try out the mattresses and get some suggestions from the sales representatives.
8. How can you prevent mold under an RV mattress?
Condensation buildup is a big issue inside RVs, which would lead to mold and unpleasant odors. One area where moisture can be trapped is under your RV mattress.
The reason is while the surface that the mattress sits on is often cool to cold (whether it’s the floor or a bed base), when you sleep on your mattress, the warmth from your body warms it up. The temperature difference makes the moisture from the air start to condense between the bottom of the warm mattress and the cold surface it’s laying on. To keep your RV mattress in check, you can follow one for more of the methods below to minimize condensation:
Add a dehumidifier: You can also follow any of the following methods, but no matter what you do, it’s wise to add a dehumidifier in your bedroom. This is especially so if you often travel in humid climates, and if you often cook inside your RV, which can produce a lot of steam within the confined space.
Create airflow under the mattress: In the case that you place your mattress on the floor or on a solid base , the best way to make sure no moisture ever builds up under your RV mattress is to increase the airflow underneath it by putting the mattress on a slatted base, or putting in an anti-condensation ventilation mattress underlay. These mattress underlays often consist of strong weaves of spun polymer and plastic, which creates a firm structure that holds up your entire mattress. This will allow air to circulate underneath the mattress, thus minimizing moisture buildup.
The benefits of using an anti-condensation ventilation mattress underlay is that it’s a permanent solution, and is effective even in hot humid climates. On top of this, you can also occasionally point the fans at the mattress to provide extra airflow.
Add an absorbent sheet: One of the most popular options for the budget campers is an absorbent layer. Although this is not really a permanent solution, this is a particularly smart hack when you have a solid base and do not want to spend money to replace it with a slatted base. You can buy commercial sheets designed for this purpose, or if you want to save further, you can use a DIY made from cotton or cotton flannel.
The major drawback of this trick is that you need more than one sheet to rotate every few days, and you’d need to take the sheet out from under the mattress to replace it with a fresh one. If you don’t rotate them regularly, they will develop mold themselves after staying under the mattress for too long.
Cardboard insulation: Another budget-friendly but also less permanent trick to prevent condensation is to add one or two layers of cardboard under the entire area of your RV mattress for extra insulation. This will help lessen the temperature difference between the RV mattress and the cold surface underneath, thus reducing condensation. The drawback is that this is more of a quick, temporary hack if you camp in moderately humid climates, and they might not work in very humid climates. While similar to using absorbent sheets, you’ll need to regularly check the cardboard and replace them to avoid mold growing on them, with cardboards, you might only need to replace it every 3 to 6 months or so in not too humid climates, or as needed.
9. Do I have to follow certain rules while washing mattresses?
RV mattresses come with detailed instructions on cleaning, washing and general care; following them is sufficient to keep your mattress in good shape.
An important note is instead of washing, the majority of mattresses for recreational vehicles only require spot cleaning. In any case, it’s going to be a breeze to maintain overall sanitation while traveling, just keep food and drink away from the bed.
When you put your RV into storage, make sure to use mattress covers.
10. How to keep an RV mattress from sliding?
Mattresses with non-skid bottom: There are numerous methods to keep a mattress from sliding, but it’s important to note that you can prevent it from happening in the first place by buying a one-sided mattress instead of the double-sided version. Unlike double-sided mattresses, the one-sided type features a non-skid bottom and thus cannot be flipped, which means they won’t be sliding around even if you tumble about in your bed.
Secure mattress on metal frame: Metal frames are slippery, especially if you have a memory foam or latex mattress, which will have less gripping friction to the bed base due to the nature of the material. A rubber mat, which is similar to what is used to keep rugs and carpets in place, is the best solution in this case.
The mechanism is simple but effective, as a rubber mat introduces friction to keep your mattress in place. You just need to get a rubber mat of the right size to fit your RV mattress. If you want some versatility, you can buy a piece that is slightly bigger than the bottom so you could always trim it down later. When you’re dealing with a metal bed frame, in addition to any pads or mats you use to increase friction between the bottom of the mattress and the bed frame, you can install side rails for further effectiveness. Side rails will trap the mattress in place.
Securing mattress on box spring: It’s not possible to add side rails on a box spring. Fortunately, with box springs, all you need is to add a non-slip pad to enhance friction. A good alternative is mattress encasements, which also add an extra layer of friction and at the same time preserve the mattress’ integrity.
Securing mattress on platform bed: To prevent mattress from sliding on a platform bed, the bed base and the mattress must be a perfect match in size. If your mattress is too big, it will slide around. You can use a rub mat or any other type of anti-slip pads as above.
Velcro Strips: Large size, heavy-duty velcro strips make for a cheap solution. The velcro strips have an adhesive on each side, just peel the paper, stick one strip to the mattress and the corresponding strip to the bed base. The mechanism is simple: one strip consists of tiny little loops on its surface, while the corresponding strip is made up of tiny hooks, which would hook to the tiny loops of the other strip, thus when these two strips come into contact, they would attach to each other and keep your mattress in place, as long as the strips are aligned correctly. While we’re at this, double-sided carpet tape can also work as a cheap temporary solution.
Securing mattress topper: To secure the mattress topper, you need to buy a tight fitted, deep pocket sheet in the first place, and secure it with suspenders designed for this purpose. Safety pins are not recommended, since you can easily rip the topper as well as damaging the mattress.

After researching to replace our RV queen mattress we decided on the Serena 8 inch. Your reviews on this guide were a great help and gave us all the necessary knowledge on how to choose the best RV mattress for our needs! We were afraid the 8 inch would be too high at the front of camper due to the curving, but some reviewers on Amazon said there was little less than 8 inches fully settled. We went into buying, hoping it would be an estimated depth. Opening in place would help if it got too high as well. It’s comfortable!!! I don’t usually like foam type mattresses, but this one is great. No smell, and no damage. This one was rated best of best – best quality for best price without going into the fancy sleep numbers, etc. we are considering replacing the kids bunk bed foams with these as well.
Thanks, Scott for your comment. Yeah we’ve spent hundreds of hours on researching, testing to provide you most reliable reviews on top-rated RV mattresses, which could save you a lot of time. This Serenia memory foam mattress is highly recommended by many RVers because of the comfort it provides. I bought this one (8 inch Short Queen size) for my Fuzion Toy Hauler, it fits my camper well, not too high. With Serenia mattress, my back pain when sleeping is gone. Such a great product from Serenia Sleep! Hope you have great time camping with this amazing product.
I’m 6’4″ and 225 lbs. I had added a memory foam topper on top of my Serta RV mattress and thought I was happy. Then over the winter while in storage, my camper developed a small leak above the bed, so I had to replace the mattress. I decided to try the Serenia Sleep 8-Inch queen mattress based on the reviews here and it turned out to be an awesome upgrade. It arrived in two days and it had virtually no smell when I unwrapped it. The mattress is rated “medium”, but it feels plenty firm to me. After 20 nights camping, I love this darn thing and do not want to get up in the morning. Very pleased and highly recommend to RV campers
Thanks for your detailed reviews, Matthew. It’s very helpful for us and other RV campers!
Like an idiot and new to the RV life, I slept on maybe 2” thick feathered mattress that came with my travel trailer. My back and neck were destroyed. As a 28 y/o, this was insane. Even after all the random locations I slept while In the military.
I purchased DynastyMattress 10-Inch RV mattress short queen size and received the shipment in about 8-9 days in San Diego. I wasted no time! I pulled it out of the box and broke the vacuum sealed bag. Within 10 minutes, it fully expanded. After a week of sleeping on this “cloud”, my neck and back were back to normal and I sleep like a baby now. Worth ever dollar!
Thanks for sharing, John. It’s true that most of the original mattresses which came with the campers are not comfortable as we expected. It would be a disaster for those who are suffering from back & neck issues. Replacing that standard mattress with a new and good-quality RV mattress would be a wise investment then. DynastyMattress 10-Inch RV is comfortable, firm but not overly firm, and provides a great foundation for a good nights sleep. Great to know that you found a good RV mattress and your neck and back recovered to normal now. Happy camping!!!
I agree with you that Serenia Sleep 8-Inch Memory Foam RV Mattress is a good product, but it still has some small problems that it is pretty expensive and has an unpleasant odor. So I want to change a new one that cheaper.
It’s true that Serenia Sleep 8-Inch RV Mattress is expensive in comparison with other options. But I could really say that it exceeds my expectations.
If you want a good quality RV mattress with a better price, LUCID 10 Inch is another great choice.
Well, best rv mattress, is all a matter of opinion. You should have stated best rv mattress on amazon in short queen since your focus was there. Not all these so called ,best, are avavilble in short king. I understand you are making this psocess easy for some of the lasziest people around, but you should be more spefic.
The write up was well done, but my question is, Did you purchase each mattress to test yourself or are reviews based on othesr that purchased these products?
The LUCID Gel Memory Foam RV Mattress is a steady, unspectacular option worthwhile for any RV owner that’s looking for a simple, high-quality model. I also love the way LUCID compensated for gel memory foam’s tendency to trap in body heat and made it a non-factor. They use moisture controlling ventilated fabric when creating this product, which regulates temperature and ensures you won’t get too hot during the night. I really like that!
I replaced an older foam mattress in my travel trailer with the Linenspa hybrid mattress. I and my wife are both very happy with the comfort it offer. Much better than our old one. Well spent for better sleep when on the road!
I was actually really shocked how well my husband and I loved the bed from LUCID. We purchased an 10 Inch mattress – short queen size for our RV.
It came in a box, that looked like it was beat to crap BUT the plastic and mattress were fine. Super easy to put on the bed. My husband and I were nervous this would be a bit to firm for us after feeling it. Although firmer than our last beds, it still is very comfortable for both us, one being a side sleeper and one being a stomach/back sleeper with back issues. The bed did easily inflate for us to 10 inches rather quickly and there was no smell at all when opened. Definitely a great purchase for us. I would definitely recommend this bed.
The Zinus mattress is super comfy compared to the piece of what I call foam that came with our RV. We have had it for 6+ months and seems to be still holding up well. We slept so much better, and it’s so comfortable. Definitely worth the price for a good night’s sleep.
The Linenspa Hybrid mattress is very comfortable! We were very impressed with the quality for the price. We bought this for our camper and it is a perfect fit. Much better than the mattress we got with our travel trailer! There is a bit of a bounce to it due to the inner springs but it’s not a big deal.
