Reviews Of Best-Selling RV Mattresses

Don’t have the time and patience to go through all mattresses designed for RV? If that happens to be the case, this article could show you products that seasoned RVers often mention while talking about the best RV mattress. We’ve tested them all and here are the reviews of the 15 best choices:

1. Serenia Memory Foam RV Mattress – Best Of The Best

Serenia Memory Foam RV Mattress

Characteristics:

  • Dimensions: 72 x 80 Inches
  • Thickness: 8 Inches

Why This Is the Best

Made to be light, tough and comfortable, Serenia Memory Foam RV Mattress is among the top choices on the market. Packing 2 inches of adaptable memory foam and 6 inches of high-density base foam, the RV bed mattress from Serenia guarantees superb support to pressure points around the hips and shoulders. Due to the open-cell construction, the foam disperses the weight of the body evenly and keeps the air flowing for a cool sleeping experience. So if you want something balanced, the Serenia model would be your best RV mattress.

Before making deliveries to the customers, Serenia is going to compress and roll packs its mattresses to facilitate transporting/positioning. As a result, getting Serenia Memory Foam RV Mattress into your recreational vehicle should be a walk in the park. After the mattress reaches it in its designated spot in the interior, cut through the plastic packaging to unroll it on to your bed frame. In most cases, it only takes around 72 hours for the Serenia RV mattress to reach its original specification (usually sooner).

Regarding post-purchase support, Serenia Memory Foam RV Mattress is accompanied by a limited manufacturer’s warranty against manufacturing defects which bring peace of mind. The response time of customer service is excellent as well.

This mattress is insanely comfortable, and doesn’t transfer motion. We are going on 7 months with it, not a single sign of wear. I highly recommend! We bought the RV king for our 377MBS Grand Design Solitude RV which we live in full time, but I plan to order this same mattress, regular king size, once we are back in a house. Super soft mattresses give me back pain. This one is not overly firm by any means, but just perfect. I sleep like a baby on it.

Pros:

  • Tremendous back support
  • Straightforward maintenance
  • Great values for the price

Cons:

  • Minor valley issues
  • Slightly expensive

2. DynastyMattress CoolBreeze Gel Memory Foam Mattress

I’ve only used this mattress 2 months but it’s amazing!!! I put it in a 32′ RV which requires a short queen. I’m 6’4″ 260# and it feels similar to my $4000 Simmons Beautyrest. Of course the Dynasty Mattress replaced a 3″ RV foam (see pics) mattress that came with the RV so ANYTHING would be an improvement. It sure felt good throwing that 3″ foam piece of junk on the burn pile! BUY THIS MATTRESS. I’m pretty sure the people who give this negative reviews go through life complaining. Oh the pillows that came with it? They started out REALLY skinny and I was worried they were going to be like my crappy Tempurpedic pillows but the Dynasty pillows expanded and expanded and expanded. In short, the pillows are as high a quality as the mattress.

We bought this to replace a terrible standard mattress that comes with the purchase of a travel trailer. This is a short queen which was the only size that would do. Perfect fit and it only took a few minutes to set up. It did not take 48 hrs to fully extend like the instructions say. Best night sleep in a long while. Even thinking of replacing our king size mattress at home, which is a Serta pillow top. Toss up! Best price and arrived quickly. BTW: similar or less quality foam mattresses at the RV stores are double this price.

In use, Zinus Green Tea Memory Foam Mattress is often considered to be quite forgiving. Follow the instruction manual included in the package and the mattress of Zinus shall bring forward high-quality shut-eye.

We bought this mattress to replace a king in an RV. We selected the 12″ thick model. OEM mattresses in RV’s are often slightly off standard size. A standard king was too wide to fit properly inside the headboard slide-out compartment. It was either buy a custom sized mattress ($$$$) or one we could trim to size. Trimming required unzipping the cover and cutting off 2″ in width to make it fit properly. The cut was made with a very sharp butcher knife after drawing a line along the edge to follow with the knife blade. Since the mattress is “layered” it was very easy to make a straight, clean cut by doing 3 passes. Compared to the OEM so-called premium pillow-top innerspring mattress, even with an added memory foam topper, the comfort and support is cause for a very comfortable night. It has a soft, conforming memory foam top layer and is firm enough underneath to allow sleeping on my stomach without experiencing back pain from being on a sway back mattress. It is NOT hot. I am so glad we selected this mattress rather than a higher priced “purple” offering that I doubt would have offered any additional comfort. If you are looking for a feather-bed super soft mattress this will probably be too firm. But, for good support in any sleeping position with added body form comfort, it is an A+. I actually like it better than the $2,500 king we have in our brick and mortar house bedroom.

We love it! After a week of sleeping on this mattress (which arrives in a large box that by all rights should not hold A BED) we are firmly convinced we love this bed. The mattress that came in our RV was a ok for occasional use but to sleep on every night? No way. We are retired and plan on traveling in our RV for the next 2 years so we looked for a replacement short queen and of course, found what we were looking for on Amazon. I know it’s hard to believe but this mattress is every bit as comfortable as our sleep number on a very firm setting. We both have back issues so we need support.
This is a great mattress for the price, for the convenience (delivered right to your door) and for the quality. Also no smell and I am VERY sensitive to smells.
Good deal!
We are very happy with this purchase. Thank you Amazon!

Buyer’s Guide: How To Get The Best RV Mattress

Different RVers undoubtedly have different sleeping requirements so there is no such thing as the best RV mattress for everyone. That being said, it’s nonetheless necessary for you to keep in mind a couple of criteria while assessing available mattresses.

best camper mattress
RV Mattress Buyer’s Guide

Comfort

Of course, no one wants to waste money on mattresses that make them feel uncomfortable. Therefore, your topmost priority, once it comes to mattresses, is definitely going to be comfort. Good mattresses must pack sufficient support to your back and offer relief to the joints. In addition, if you sleep with others, it’s a good idea to look for mattresses that feature motion isolation. Last but not least, for trips that take place in hot weather (such as summers), having mattresses made from breathable materials should come in handy.

Dimensions

Space is by all accounts a scarce resource in recreational vehicles so before buying anything for your RV, you need to make plans for arrangements. It’s pointless to buy what you think would be the best RV mattress for your rig, only to find out later that you don’t have the required space. So in order to get your money’s worth, take dimensions into account and avoid making purchases on a whim. Write down the measurements of the spots where you intend to put the mattresses and use them as shopping references.

Portability

In most RV settings, people swap things in/out every now and then, which is why it’s great to invest in highly portable mattresses. With the freedom to bend/fold your mattresses without causing permanent damage, it’s going to be a breeze for you to rearrange the interior. To make sure that the mattresses boast the desired portability, you better go check some customer reviews as a precaution. In case you have doubts then contact the manufacturers at once to get straight answers.

Safety

In case you don’t know, the mattresses you use in your recreational vehicles have significant influences on your safety. Since it’s impossible to be too careful if your well-being is on the line, make your choice carefully. All in all, RV experts often advise that you opt to get certified mattresses that don’t contain toxic chemicals such as mercury in them. Furthermore, in order to minimize the risk of fire hazards, keep an eye out for mattresses that incorporate fire retardants.

Warranty

As choosing mattresses for your RV is quite tedious, you don’t want to redo the whole thing too soon. Hence, it’s going to be wise to include the warranty into your shopping criteria. By grabbing products with solid warranties, you should be safe from unexpected incidents as well as troubles in the future. In addition to that, warranties of the mattresses usually give critical insights about build quality. For most of the time, long-term warranties tend to indicate that the mattress manufacturers have complete confidence in the build quality of the mattresses.

Benefits Of A Camper Mattress

  • Deliver Much-Needed Pain Relief

Sure, heading into the outdoors could be a nice change of pace but it may also take a heavy toll on your back and neck. Fortunately, with some fine mattresses for campers around, you and your loved ones shall have access to excellent pain relief. After a long day on the road, nothing beats lying down soft but stable mattresses that support your weary body. By the time you wake up, all the soreness and aching would disappear to let you start the day fresh.

  • Keep Allergens (Mites, Mildew, …) Away

Compared to the average household mattresses, mattresses produced for recreational vehicles prove markedly superior once it comes to expelling allergens. Dust mites mildew, … rarely get a steady foothold in RV-specific mattresses which work in favor of people that have to deal with allergies. However, you still need to look after your RV mattresses if you want to get the most out of them.

  • Maintain Temperatures At Suitable Levels

Most RV models in use nowadays have adequate thermal insulation but RVers run into temperature-related issues now and then. If you manage to set them up properly, quality mattresses should be able to address such issues to a certain degree. Obviously, your choice of pillows, blankets, toppers and so on also affect the overall temperature so keep that in mind.

Prominent Types Of RV Mattress

1. Innerspring Mattress

Featuring the traditional coil support system, innerspring mattress remains fairly popular among RVers that grew up sleeping on them. As the coils tend to be sandwiched between the bedding, people have lots of bounciness as well as back support. Additionally, you don’t have to spend much money on mattresses with internal coils as they come at reasonable prices. On the downside, motions travel rather far in innerspring mattresses so if you sleep next to someone that tumbles often, things may get slightly inconvenient.

2. Foam Mattress

rv mattress reviews

Mattresses use all kinds of foams but three options stand out from the rest:

  • Polyurethane: Sourced from synthetic materials, Polyurethane mattresses have a reputation for being lightweight and affordable. That is why a lot of manufacturers of recreational vehicles decide to use Polyurethane foam for the default onboard mattresses. The level of support provided by the Polyurethane falls behind other mattress materials but it definitely suffices in a pinch.
  • Memory: The foam gets its name due to a unique ability: it responds to the heat and weight of the sleepers then shape itself accordingly. For RVers that desire optimum support and comfort, mattresses made of memory foam would be the best bets without fail. But as such mattresses demand significant resources, they prove ill-suited to budget-minded shoppers.
  • Latex: Using natural ingredients, Latex mattresses should be the preferred choice for eco-conscious RVers. Being naturally hypoallergenic, mattresses that make use of Latex foam excel at keeping the allergens away in virtually every condition. In terms of shortcomings, Latex mattresses produce less than ideal back support to the sleepers.

3. Air Mattress

Considered to be the perfect solution for owners of RV with restricted spaces, air mattresses could be deployed and put away without much difficulty. The presence of air in the mattresses also guarantees outstanding thermal insulation in most settings.  That being said, a few additional worries also come up such as losses of airs, stretchy materials and so on.

FAQs About RV Mattresses

most comfortable rv mattress
  • So how could I make my RV mattresses more comfortable?

By themselves, most mattresses designed for RV use should let the average RVers sleep comfortably. Still, if you find the comfort of your mattresses falls short of your expectation then consider adding pads, toppers, bedding, … then see how things turn out. Feel free to experiment in order to determine the setup that fits your personal tastes. Of course, you must evaluate the characteristics of the mattresses into account before adding stuff. It’s also necessary for you to think about the expense of outfitting the mattresses.

  • Do I have to follow certain rules while washing mattresses?

Technically, RV-specific mattresses tend to come with detailed instructions about cleaning, washing and so on, all you have to do is to follow them. Nonetheless, instead of washing, the majority of mattresses for recreational vehicles only require spot cleaning. In any case, it’s going to be a breeze for you to maintain the overall sanitation of the mattresses on your rig while traveling. Just keep food, drink and so on away from mattresses. If you intend to put your RV into storage, make sure to use mattress covers.

  • What is the best place to buy mattresses for RV?

Thanks to the recent growth of eCommerce, you would be able to purchase first-class mattresses for your rig without having to lift a finger. However, lots of people prefer to go to physical shops to get a feel of the real mattresses before deciding.  So in the end, it’s all about your shopping style: If you want mattresses in a hurry then go straight to the online stores. On the other hand, if you have time and need to make sure that you get the best deal then it’s worth the effort to visit physical shops sometimes.

  • How much should I spend on mattresses for my rig?

With so many products available for purchase on the market lately, RVers could buy mattresses at a variety of budgets. But one classic rule of thumb still remains relevant: “you get what you pay for”. Sure, you may get the cheapest mattresses in order to save money for more pressing tasks but remember that dirt-cheap mattresses rarely provide satisfaction. In fact, if you decide to buy cheaply made mattresses to spare a few bucks, odds are you have to throw them away after a short time which wastes money.
