You can estimate charging time by dividing the battery’s capacity by the charger’s rating, and a good rule of thumb is to add about 10% for the extra time to for the battery to reach from almost full charge to full charge. For instance, you have a dead 100 ampere-hour AGM battery, and to recharge to 100% full charge at moderate room temperature (70°F or 21°C) using a 10-amp charger, it would take around: 100AH ÷ 10A × 110% = 11 hours. 

9. Do AGM batteries charge while I’m driving?

While you’re driving, the RV engine’s alternator will charge your AGM RV batteries. When you’ve reached your campsite, you can also plug into shore power or run a generator to top off your batteries.

10. How do you take care of an AGM battery?

Avoid repeated deep discharges. Avoid letting your batteries get below 80% depth of discharge, although the best AGM batteries are technically designed to withstand a 80% depth of discharge. On a regular basis, 50% depletion is the safe threshold. Top off your batteries as soon as possible by plugging into shore power or using a generator when you arrive at the campgrounds. Below 80% depth of discharge, hard sulfation will occur and will irreversibly affect its capacity to accept and hold a charge, and will shorten its lifespan. 
Know when to charge: To ensure a long life, AGM deep cycle batteries should be recharged when they are depleted down to 45% or 50% charge. Slow charging is best: If your charger has damage protections in place and can be left plugged in 24/7, experts generally recommend charging the battery slowly over a 10-20-hour period at a moderate room temperature of 70°F or 21°C instead of trying to overcharging the battery to reduce charging time. Use a four-stage deep cycle battery charger: A deep cycle battery charger is the right charger to efficiently maintain an AGM battery’s deep discharge and recharge cycles. This stepped model allows more current to flow to the battery when it is deeply discharged, and then slowly reduces the charging voltage as the battery reaches full capacity. Solar power for recharging: It’s worth noting that if you often boondock, installing solar panels is a sustainable solution for topping off your AGM batteries and making sure you won’t run out of power. 
Initial programming for the charger: The first time you bring your system online, depending on the model, you might need to program your chargers to the proper charging settings best suited for your battery bank. These settings dictate parameters like charging voltage and current. Refer to the manuals for your batteries and chargers for these specific settings.
Initial programming is crucial, since this is how you program “voltage set points”, or the different charging voltages that the battery will receive during each stage of the charging cycle. It is important to note that batteries typically charge in 3 stages—bulk, absorb, and float. Each stage requires the charger to be set at a specific voltage for optimal charging, which is based on the requirements of your specific battery pack.
Programming the voltage set points accurately for these three charging stages is absolutely critical to ensuring your batteries’ ability to hold a full charge, its overall long-term health and lifespan. There are also other important values to set during the initial programming, which are different for every battery, including max charge rate or charge current limit, maximum charging current, temperature compensation, absorb time and AC input amps.
When in storage: When you are storing your RV in the off season, keep the battery and charger away from extreme heat or cold, as both aren’t ideal for the battery’ and the charger’s components. And don’t rest the battery directly on the floor. Keep the Battery Disconnect Switch in the “batteries off” position. Another maintenance tip is during storage, you should disconnect the ground wire to prevent it from draining the battery.

11. What is the safety charging tips for AGM batteries?

Before starting your charging sessions, always make sure to remove the key from the ignition and switch off all lights and electrical circuits connecting the battery charger.
Make sure you clamp the positive cable to the positive battery terminal and vice versa. They are color-coded with corresponding symbols (positive: red, “+” and negative: black, “-”) for identification.
Before starting charging, remember to set the charger to match the battery type, that is AGM. Next, connect the cables of the chargers to the terminals of the battery: Clip the red clamp to the positive terminal (+ symbol), then clip the black clamp to the negative terminal (- symbol). After connecting the cables, connect the charge to the power outlet (110-120 volts AC). Now just turn on the charger.
Keep the battery terminals corrosion-free: The terminals are naturally prone to rust and the buildup of yellow-ish sulfuric acid residue, which would affect the battery’s performance. You should regularly check the terminals and clean them with a commercial battery contact cleaning solution and a small soft brush for scrubbing, or simply using a homemade mixture of baking soda and water. 
Only put on a battery charger while the battery or the terminals are completely dry. Doing so when moisture is present can cause a spark and ignite the battery, a potential fire hazard.
Try to keep the battery away from extreme heat or cold when charging and when in storage. You may notice charging times  fluctuating when it’s too hot or cold.

12. Do AGM batteries go bad?

Although AGM batteries are often regarded by experts as the best deep cycle battery for camping applications, they will eventually go bad and meet the end of their life. Proper charging and discharging using the right deep cycle battery charger, as well as less exposure to extreme cold, will maximize AGM battery life, of course.
Do note that all types of deep cycle batteries are lead-acid batteries, thus they run the risk of sulfation if left uncharged for too long without a trickle charger to keep it at full charge. Sulfation is a natural process that happens with every battery over time. However, if you store your AGM batteries in a discharge state for extended periods, rapid sulfation happens. Lead sulfate crystals will build up on the battery cells, causing the battery to accept far less current than normal.
When this happens, you will need to increase the charging voltage during a charging session until the battery starts to accept the normal voltage level. If the battery does not respond, it may not recover from being in the discharge state for too long and thus needs to be replaced.
