Pop-up campers are one of the mainstays of the RV world, and thanks to their affordable pricing and ease of towing they are more popular than ever.

But, are pop-up campers with bathrooms and showers available?

Yes indeed! Sure, they may be a little harder to find than in a traditional motorhome or 5th wheeler, but there are definitely some great options out there.

There are two main categories of pop-up campers – the hard-walled or sided pop-up camper and the flip-out (or tent trailer) pop-up camper. The second of these two options are obviously the cheaper of the two.

Types Of Pop-Up Campers

  • High wall pop-ups – These campers feature higher sidewalls that allow for regular height countertops and increased storage space.

  • Toyhauler pop-ups – Rarely include a bathroom as they are set up to transport ATVs, motorbikes, or other cargo when the camper is packed down.

  • A-frame pop-ups – A-frame pop-ups feature solid walls which are commonly smaller than a high wall camper with an A-frame roof setup.

  • Flip-out or Tent pop-ups – These campers feature a canvas or soft roof which usually flips out to convert into a bunk.

  • Teardrops pop-ups – A style of hard sided trailer pop-ups that conform to the classic “Teardrop” trailer shape.

  • Hi-Lo pop-ups – Although the main company producing these campers went bust in 2010, these hard-shelled pop up trailers that extend up through a telescopic hydraulic lift system are still well sought after and available on the second hand market. Some other brands (such as TrailManor) have taken the reins and made some design improvements.
The 6 Best Pop-up Campers With Bathrooms and Showers (With Prices, Pictures, and Floor Plans) 6
  • Hybrid pop-ups – Hybrid pop-ups combine the advantages of a pop-up camper and a traditional bumper-pull travel trailer. They usually feature a hard body and extendable roof, but have pop-outs made of canvas, which helps keep the overall weight down while offering more overall space.

What does a typical pop-up camper bathroom look like?

That all depends on which type of pop-up camper you go for, but they all fold down for ease of towing and easily extend for extra space while stationary.

What types of bathrooms are commonly featured in pop-up campers?

If you are looking for a camping trailer with a hotel-style bathroom setup then you may be a little underwhelmed…

  • Dry bathrooms are a rarity in the pop-up camper category. This type of bathroom is the most like a normal household bathroom. They get their name from the fact that they have a separate showering area that allows the rest of the bathroom to stay dry.
  • Wet bathrooms are pretty self-explanatory. Wet bathrooms are much more common in Pop-Up campers, and while yes the whole room will get wet while the shower is being used, they do a great job of saving overall space.

There are a couple of common toilet types that pop-up campers most commonly feature

  • Recirculating toilets are just like the ones you find on commercial airliners. Although they can be tricky to work on and may require specialized technicians to fix when broken, they do not waste any freshwater. The waste tank for these toilets uses chemicals to deodorize and sanitize any harmful bacteria.
  • Flush toilets work just like a regular toilet. They are hooked up to the camper’s internal water system.
  • Cassette toilets are the most simple of the three toilet options, and the most common. They incorporate a removable waste tank which can be easily removed and emptied into a regular toilet when it gets full. Not the most fun job, but this basic design can help keep overall costs down.

The 6 Best Pop-up Campers With Bathrooms and Showers (With Prices, Pictures, and Floor Plans) 9

The Forest River Rockwood HW277 is the perfect vacation or weekender. Built to last decades (which can not be said of all pop-up campers), Forest River have truly outdone themselves here.

In terms of bathroom space, this camper has what is considered a pretty standard-sized bathroom for pop-up campers. The wet bathroom has curtained walls and is no bigger than your standard home shower area, but does the job it was intended to do perfectly. The cassette-style toilet is easy to maintain and made from high-quality PVC.

The internal kitchen offers enough cooking and preparation space to feed a large family. The mid-sized fridge can hold about 4 days worth of fresh food, the 3 burner stove-top comes with a plexiglass hood, and the convection oven is big enough for a thanksgiving turkey (well, maybe not, but it’s big enough for this camper!).

With the ability to sleep up to 6 adults (although that may be a bit of a squeeze), this camper is the perfect size for most families. There’s a full-sized king bed, a full-sized queen bed, and the U-shaped dinette converts into a very comfortable sleeping area large enough for 2.

With an overall score of 4.3 on RVinsider, it is obvious that the Aliner LXE is a hit with current owners.

The wet bathroom is a simple affair, with a shower and cassette toilet pushed together in a slightly cramped space but with more than enough room to have a proper scrub. There is an extra outdoor shower also thrown in.

The almost 8-foot high roof gives this camper a very roomy feel, and this feeling is only boosted by the 2 skylights and oversized windows. These use a resin called Lexan in place of glass which is not only much stronger but offers far better temperature control.

The e-coated steel tubular frame offers some of the best corrosion resistance available in the pop-up class and offers far better tensile strength than most of the competition. This setup has been proven to last the test of time and will stay in great condition for decades with proper care.

Then there’s the kitchenette which comes standard with a 3 cu ft 3-way refrigerator, a 2 burner stove, 3 interior electrical outlets, and a microwave. More than enough for a couple or small family!

Coachmen Campers have been around for a long time, and have built a solid reputation for providing the top quality options at more than reasonable prices.

My favorite Coachmen pop-up camper that features a toilet and shower is the Coachmen Clipper Sport 1285 SST. This is one the largest pop-ups that Coachmen makes, and is big enough to fit the whole family and then some.

  • Price: MSRP $16,564.00

Why do so many people love this camper?

For starters, it’s one of the larger pop-ups that offer a toilet/shower combo. And to say it is priced to please would be selling it short. At under $17,000 new, the Clipper Sport 1285 SST is one of the larger bargains on today’s list.

The bathroom setup is very simple. A small 2 by 2 ft area that is partitioned by a simple curtain setup, this is certainly not the most private washing area but it gets the job done. Again we have a cassette-style latrine that easily unclips for painless waste management, and the shower provides surprisingly good water pressure.

The 6 Best Pop-up Campers With Bathrooms and Showers (With Prices, Pictures, and Floor Plans) 20

With 2 full king beds and 2 convertible sleeping areas, there’s a bunch of room for what coachmen fit 7 people, but in reality, I wouldn’t want to try and fit more than 6 adults. The beds are extremely comfortable, and the pull-outs are better than most.

The 6 Best Pop-up Campers With Bathrooms and Showers (With Prices, Pictures, and Floor Plans) 21

The living area provides a bunch of storage sp[ace and plenty of outlets, and there is ample room for dining. The kitchenette is one of the smaller setups out of today’s list, but how often do you really use more than 2 burners at a time? Yeah, it’s rare for me also!

Since we are on the subject of larger pop-up campers with bathrooms, I would not be doing my job if I didn’t slot in the TrailManor 3124 KB. To my knowledge, this hard-sided unit offers the largest bathroom out of any pop-up currently on the market, while still being compact enough to fit almost any garage!

With room for 7, this fantastic camper offers ample room no matter the size of your family! There’s a huge king bed, a roomy queen bed, and a very comfortable pull-out. More like room for 6 if you are asking me, but 7 big people could probably fit (in a squeeze).

The Mantis by Taxa Outdoors is a little bit different from the other offerings listed so far. This “Hybrid” pop-up camper has been designed with adventure in mind and skips some of the creature comforts that most traditional RVs may include.

But, one feature it does not skip is a bathroom set-up. The off-road beast includes a wet bathroom with a full shower and cassette toilet set up and is one of the few adventure pop-ups that does so.

The 6 Best Pop-up Campers With Bathrooms and Showers (With Prices, Pictures, and Floor Plans) 35

While Aliner may produce the most well-known A-frame pop-ups, they are far from the only camper manufacturer to do so. Forest River has a rich history with these styles of campers and, in my opinion, the Flagstaff Camper T21DMHW is the best in their range.

Combining the convenience of a tent camper with the solid exterior of a travel trailer, the Forest River Flagstaff Camper T21DMHW features an indoor wet bathroom with a cassette toilet and an outdoor hot water shower. The shower comes with a solid plexiglass door and is fed by the 26-gallon fresh water tank. That’s enough water for a few days worth of showering for a few people, and the 6-gallon hot water heater allows for decently long hot showers.

Pop-Up Camper Bathroom FAQs

Should I Rent A Pop-Up With A Bathroom Before I Buy?

Why not?! Renting an RV has never been easier, with a bunch of companies offering a huge range of RV rentals, including op-ups with bathrooms. A few notable companies are:

The last thing anyone wants to do is splash a bunch of cash only to find out they prefer a different option. My suggestion would be to make a shortlist of a few pop-up campers with bathrooms that catch your eye and rent each one out for a weekend to find your perfect RV match.

How Do I Combat A Stinky Rv Toilet?

This will really depend on what type of toilet your pop-up has. A recirculating toilet uses chemical solutions to kill the odor-breeding bacteria, so the last thing you want to do is skimp on the amount of these chemicals you use. Always follow the instructions.

Most pop-ups use a cassette-style toilet. Cassette toilets should be cleaned every two to three months with a specialized  “Cassette Tank Cleaner” and regularly cleaned just like any normal toilet.

These are the easiest to maintain as they simply need to be unclipped and dumped at designated dumping sites, but remember to never dump them at undesignated spots as this type of waste can cause ecological issues.

Conduct regular checks on all the seals and valves to ensure there is no chance of any of the waste leaking out.

Do I Need To Purchase Special Toilet Paper?

Yes indeed, unless you are happy to deal with sticky and messing blockages constantly! There are a few options out there, but my go-to dissolving TP products are:

The Wrap Up

Well, there you have it. My rundown of the 6 best pop-up campers with bathrooms and showers.

I tried to cover all of the bases and a wide range of price points, so hopefully, there are a couple of options on today’s list that caught your eye.

For me, it’s hard to go past the Forest River Rockwood HW277. This camper strikes a great balance of value for money with the great build quality, list of features, and a decent warrant -, but really any of these campers are a great choice.

So, what are you waiting for? The weather is warming up, so go grab a Pop-up and see what all the fuss is about.
